Parasocial Relationships May Seem Fake, But They're Actually Very Real

Scientific American recently released an article about how parasocial relationships - one sided pseudo-relationships we develop over time with people or characters we experience on TV or in the movies - are able alleviate feelings of loneliness.

Well, if Virtual Biographies™ were mainstream by now, they, too, would be included in that list of parasocial mediums which are able to cure the uncomfortableness of feeling companionless.

Celebrities Are Becoming Our New Best Friends

There's no doubt about it... many of us experience the lives of celebrities more often than we experience the lives our close friends and family. 

Every day, we're bombarded by media broadcasts that showcase the lives of these larger than life individuals and, over time, we begin to develop, what seems like, a very close relationship to them.  You could even say that some of these relationships seemingly feel more intimate than the ones you have with the people you know personally.  It's natural for this illusion of intimacy to occur, because you may spend time with your favorite character on a television show at least once per week, but you don't hang out with some of your best friends more than a couple times a month.
